William Hogue is listed as a private July 26, 1862 when Company D of the 23rd Iowa Infantry was organized at Corydon, Ia. according to Aquilla Standifird's Civil War Journal, Part One.
Died of Gunshot wound he received while serving with the Union Army, Port Gibson, Miss. His place of death was at the hospital in Grand Gulf, Mississippi.
A transcript of the 1850 Wayne Co., Ia. census (online 8/17/2004 at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iawayne/census/1155.htm) shows William and Hetty A. "Hoeage" and daughter Harriet. He is listed as age 26, born Illinois, she as age 23, born Tennessee. Daughter Harriet is listed as age 1, born Illinois.
