      Formed in 1734 and named for Prince of Orange, who that year had married Princess Anne, daughter of George II. In 1749, county seat at present location. Village first incorporated in 1834. From the creation of Orange County in 1734 until the adoption of the Constitution of 1852, the clerk was appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the County Court. The office of County Clerk became elective in 1852.
