Archibald was born on April 17th, 1819 in Surrey County, North Carolina.  Archibald's father was Alexander Carmichael.  His paternal grandparents were Archibald Carmichael and Elizabeth Nix.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 85 on May 21st, 1904 in Greene County, Indiana.
