Catherine was born in 1867 in Niederwurzbach, Saarland, Germany.  Catherine's father was Freiderich (Fred) Wilhelm Dahlem and her mother was Catharina Kunckel.  Her paternal grandparents were Johann Dahlem and Frederike Elizabeth Lindelman. She had seven brothers and a sister, named Frederick, Charles, Henry, William, August, Jacob, John and Lena.  She was the oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 1 in 1868 in Germany.
