Lena was born in 1877.  Lena's father was William B Dougherty and her mother was Ellen Lee.  Her paternal grandparents were John Dougherty and Sarah Groves. She had three brothers and a sister, named Martin, Russell, James and Tilitha.  She was the youngest of the five children.
