Benjamin was born on September 4th, 1745. Benjamin's father was Charles Medaris and his mother was Mary Elles. His paternal grandparents were Charles Medaris and Mary. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Charles, Johanne, Mary and Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the six children.
