Catherine was born on December 13th, 1803 in Darkesville, Berkeley, West Virginia.  Catherine's father was Rev. Mathias G. Rizer and her mother was Mary Michael. She had a brother and three sisters, named George, Anna, Polly and Rachel.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
