Mildred was born about 1899 in Winfield, Kansas. Mildred's father was James Wilson Teter and her mother was Eva Belle Yeager.  Her paternal grandparents were Moses Solomon Teter and Margret Jane McCullough; her maternal grandparents were Francis Marion Yeager and Amelia Louise Patterson. She had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Preston, Cloyd, J and Tete.
