Walter was born about 1150 in Clifford Castle, Herefordshire, England.  Walter's father was Walter FitzRichard FitzPons and his mother was Margaret de Toeni.  His paternal grandparents were Richard FitzPons and Maud FitzWalter; his maternal grandparents were Ralph de Toeni and Alice.  He was an only child.  He died on January 22nd, 1222.
