Gilbert, known as the Red, was born on September 2nd, 1243 in Christchurch, Hertfordshire, England.  He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in Monmouth Castle, Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales.  He was buried in Tewkesbury Abbey, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, England..
