Jacob, known as Jake, was born on May 23rd, 1851 in Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West Virginia.¹ Jake's father was William Henry Ambrose and his mother was Anna Eliza Virginia Snowdeal. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Ambrose and Sophia Marquart. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Tice, John, Columbus, Nathan, Margaret, Mary and Jenny. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 99 on May 21st, 1951 in Michael, Calhoun County, Illinois. He was buried in Carrollton City Cemetery, Carrollton, Illinois.²²
