John William Ambrose 
John was born in July 1853 in Morgan County, Virginia.1 John's father was Mathias D. Ambrose and his mother was Anna M. (Nancy) Vanorsdall. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Ambrose and Sophia Marquart. He had a brother and three sisters, named Daniel, Fannie, Catherine and Annie.
