Laura was born about 1871 in Mason County, Illinois.¹ Laura's father was Jacob Henry Ambrose and her mother was Phoebe Ann Adair. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Ambrose and Elizabeth. She had five brothers and four sisters, named George, Jacob, William, John, Elmer, Becky, Rosina, Mary and Mattie. She was the youngest of the ten children.
