Elliot Bohannon Herndon 
Elliot was born on August 1st, 1820 in Troy, Illinois.1 Elliot's father was Archer Gray Herndon and his mother was Rebecca Johnson. His paternal grandparents were William Herndon and Mary Bohannon. He had three brothers named William, Archer and Nathaniel. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 74 on April 13th, 1895.General Notes
Admitted to the Springfield bar in 1842; in 1854-55 was city attorney of Springfield; in 1856 was State's Attorney for Sangamon County; in 1857-1861 was U. S. District Attorney; and in 1874-75 was corporation counsel for the city of Springfield; called " in court a master of incisive irony " 3 and to his brother " an odd genius ", and described as " crabbed and crippled ".
