Fred was born in 1877.  Fred's father was William Jasper Johnson and his mother was Mariah (Bell) Isabell Dougherty.  His maternal grandparents were John Dougherty and Sarah Groves. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Guy, Aaron, George, Olive, Lulu, Johnson, Dora and Sarah.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
