  Rachel Amand McFerron's 1920 census entry lists her mother's birthplace as Ohio.

Catherine's father was Isaac Van Pelt and her mother was Rachel Lough. She had five brothers and a sister, named Aaron, Gilbert, Jeremiah, Isaac, Jackson and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
