Martha was born in 1855 in Hamilton County, Indiana. Martha's father was Wesley (West) Creek and her mother was Sarah Webster. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Creek and Susannah Gibler; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Fendel Webster and Elizabeth Pulse. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, David, Joseph, Juliann, Elizabeth, Susan, Lydia, Sarah and Orpha. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
