Spencer's father was Abraham Currell Jr and his mother was Elizabeth Fleet. His paternal grandparents were Abraham Currell and Rebecca Horton; his maternal grandparents were Henry Fleet and Elizabeth Wildey. He had two brothers and a sister, named Harry, Nicholas and Ann.
