Adriaen was born in 1556 in Dordrecht, Zuid Province, Netherlands.  Adriaen's father was Jacob Adriaensz Kool and his mother was Petronella Pieters de Witt.  His paternal grandparents were Adriaen Gerardsz Kool and Lucretta Jacobs Oem; his maternal grandfather was Pieter de Witt.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 44 on January 30th, 1600 in Holland.
