Isaac was born on December 5th, 1820 in Middletown, Frederick County, Virginia.  Isaac's father was Dr. Peter Joseph Ridings and his mother was Mary Brotherton.  His paternal grandparents were John Ridings and Mary Morris. He had ten brothers and a sister, named Edwin, James, John, William, Joseph, Cyrus, Samuel, George, Peter, Charles and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 2 in 1822.
