John Peter Ridings (Peyton) 
John was born on September 8th, 1803 in Middletown, Frederick County, Virginia. John's father was Dr. Peter Joseph Ridings and his mother was Mary Brotherton. His paternal grandparents were John Ridings and Mary Morris. He had ten brothers and a sister, named Edwin, James, William, Joseph, Cyrus, Samuel, George, Peter, Charles, Isaac and Sarah. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 81 in 1884.General Notes
"John P. Ridings was the first regular and accomplished machinist in the town of Hillsborough. He settled there in 1833."
