Howard was born on June 13th, 1932 in Ohio. Howard's father was Howard Franklin Wilkin and his mother was Esther Elizabeth Linn. His paternal grandparents were Dallas Orlando Wilkin and Eugenie (Jennie) Mora Hawthorne. He had three sisters named Betty, Geraldine and Rosemary.
