Jennie Lorene Wilkin married John Harner on Jan 3, 1974 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hillsboro, Ohio. John adopted Michele Wilkin Holley, Jennie's daughter by a previous marriage, in Dec. 1974. John and Jennie's children include:
Michelle Wilkin Harner, born March 26, 1971 in Hillsboro, Ohio. Michelle married Ryan Daniel Myers, born October 9, 1973 in Kettering, Ohio, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hillsboro, Ohio on August 3, 1996. Michelle and Ryan were blessed with the birth of Alexander Jacob Myers on October 13, 1998 in Wilmington, Ohio.
Michelle received a BA in Music Education from Wilmington College in 1993. She taught in the Highland County School System as a Substitute Teacher for three years, then taught Elementary Music for a year. She is now employed as a full-time "Mommy" to Alex. Ryan is a 1996 graduate of Wilmington College, with a BA Degree in English and Theatre. He is employed by Sterling Jewelers and is preparing to attend Graduate School in 2000.
Lorine Mathews Harner, born August 21, 1976, in Hillsboro, Ohio. Lorene attended Berea College, Berea, KY and spends her summers working at 4-H Camp Clifton in Yellow Springs, Ohio as the Head Cook.
David Hawthorne Harner, born November 27, 1977 in Hillsboro, Ohio. David graduated from Hillsboro High School and Laurel Oaks Career Development Center in Agriculture Mechanics. He is buying the family farm and hopes to continue the family farming operation.
Nancy Mae Fenstermacher Harner, born November 27, 1979 in Wilmington, Ohio. Nancy is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and is attending Southern State Community College in Hillsboro and plans to become a Registered Nurse. She is currently employed as Unit Clerk of Progressive Care Unit at Clinton County Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, Ohio.
Samuel Orlando Harner, born May 7, 1980 in Wilmington, Ohio. Sam is a Senior at Hillsboro High School where he is a Defensive End and Tackle on the Football Team. He also enjoys throwing the Discus and Shot Put in Track and participating in FFA. In 1999, he was runner-up in Ohio for his Home Improvement Project through the East Clinton FFA Chapter.
John and Jennie have operated the Harner family farm which his parents and grandparents have operated since 1929. In February 1997 their family home was destroyed by fire. David is buying the farm on land contract and rebuilding the house. John and Jennie now live in New Vienna. Jennie has taught for the past 30 years in the Hillsboro City School System.
She has been actively involved in music, playing Flute, Piano, and Organ. She has been the organist at Fairview Friends Church (Quaker) for 20 years and organist at St. Mary's Episcopal Church for 30 years. Jennie retired from Teaching in 1999. John operated the family dairy farm until 1985 when the dairy herd was sold. He accepted the District Ohio Young Farmer (FFA) Dairy Award in 1977 and was one of five winners in the five state area selling milk to Milk Marketing Incorporated in 1981. John and Jennie received a trip to the University of Colorado for the National OIC Convention. He is active in Church and Lions Club. He is now employed by Airborne Express in Wilmington, Ohio.
The children have all been extremely active in 4-H and have all won awards at the Ohio State Fair level. The girls were actively involved in music, Nancy played in several honor bands, including the Ohio State Fair Band. Lorine was a member of the Berea Dancers at Berea College and Michelle was very involved in the Music programs at Wilmington College. Michelle, David and Sam have received numerous awards at the local, District and State levels of the Ohio Farmers of America, Wilmington, Ohio.
