Matilda was born in 1031 in Flanders, France.  Matilda's father was Baldwin V ("the Pious") of Flanders and her mother was Princess Adele of France.  Her paternal grandparents were Baldwin IV ("Fair Beard") of Flanders and Ogiva of Luxembourg; her maternal grandparents were King Robert II ("the Pious") of France and Constance Taillerfer of Toulouse of Arles. She had a brother named the Peaceable.  She died at the age of 52 on November 2nd, 1083 in Caen, Calvados, France.
