Clara was born in March 1888. Clara's father was Kenneth Lodwick Fry and her mother was Ida Texana Blackburn. Her paternal grandparents were King Lodowick Fry and Lavinia Nancy Hallmark. She had five brothers and a sister, named King, James, Ellis, Lewis, Albert and Annie. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She had three half-brothers named Ben, George and Lilla.
