Dr Stephen Davis Medaris 
Stephen was born on March 16th, 1845 in Owen County, Indiana. Stephen's father was Jonathan H. Medaris and his mother was Sarah Ann King. His paternal grandparents were James Davis Medaris and Levisa King. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Jason, Jonathan, Charles, Noah, Thomas, Malinda and Jane. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 46 in 1891. He was buried in Cuba Methodist Cemetery, Owen County, Indiana.General Notes
Stephen enlisted on 10, Oct. 1861 into the Federal Army, Company A., Fifty-Ninth Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged 09 May 1862 for reason of physical Disability. Stephen attended school for about a year and then rejoined the army in Company G, One Hundred and Fifteenth Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served 6 months and was again discharged.
At the time of his enlistment, Stephen was 18 years old, 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall, dark complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. He was born in Owen County, Indiana and was a farmer. He had a scar on two toes on his right foot. He would be at the siege of New Madrid, Missouri and Island No. 10 from March 1 to April 8 of 1862 during his service in the 59th. He was mustered in at Gosport, Indiana by Major Carpenter for 3 years. He spent some time in a hospital in Hamburg, Tennessee during April of 1862 and was discharged in Louisville, Kentucky on May 15, 1862.
In 1865 after teaching two terms of school, Stephen began the study of Medicine. He opened his own practice in 1868.
