Joan was born about 1272.  Joan's father was King Edward I ("Longshanks") of England and her mother was Eleanor Ponthieu of Castile and Leon.  Her paternal grandparents were King Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence. She had five brothers and ten sisters, named Joan, John, Henry, Alfonso, Edward, Eleanor, Katherine, Margaret, Berengaria, Mary, Isabella, Alice, Elizabeth, Beatrice and Blanche.  She was the sixth oldest of the sixteen children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, Edmund and Eleanor.  She died on April 23rd, 1307 in Clare, Suffolk, England.  She was buried in Priory Church of the Austin Friars, Clare, Suffolk, England.
