George was born on March 19th, 1852 in Mason City, Illinois.1   George's father was Jacob Henry Ambrose and his mother was Phoebe Ann Adair.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ambrose and Elizabeth. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Jacob, William, John, Elmer, Becky, Rosina, Mary, Mattie and Laura.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 59 in 1911.  He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mound City, Holt County, Missouri.2
