Sarah was born about 1823 in Maryland.1   Sarah's father was Solomon Ambrose and her mother was Sarah Wolfe.  Her paternal grandfather was William Henry Ambrose and her paternal grandmother is Sarah. She had four brothers named Ambrose, William, Samuel and George.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
