George was born in 1734 in Eggenstein, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.  George's father was Johann Michael Boltz and his mother was Maria Barbara Lauten.  His paternal grandparents were Hans Michael Boltz and Anna Margaretha; his maternal grandparents were Michael Lauten and Barbara. He had a brother and eight sisters, named John, Magdalena, Eva, Margretha, Anna, Anna, Elizabeth, Catherine and Anna.  He was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
