Norman was born in 1842.  Norman's father was Alexander Davis and his mother was Jane Buskirk.  His paternal grandparents were George Davis and Rozilla; his maternal grandparents were John Buskirk and Mary Terry. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Salatis, Salathiel, William, Elizabeth, Charles, Sarah, Samilda, Davis, Hester and Marietta.  He was the oldest of the eleven children.
