Edward was born on July 16th, 1738 in Caroline County, Virginia.  Edward's father was William Herndon and his mother was Ann Drysdale.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Herndon and Mary Elizabeth Waller; his maternal grandparents were Hugh Drysdale and Hester Mann. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Owen, Joseph, Reuben, William, Elizabeth, Lucy and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 92 on May 11th, 1831 in Madison County, Virginia.

Edward's family

Edward and Mary Ann were married in a religious ceremony on November 30th, 1762 in Culpeper County, Virginia.  They had eight sons and four daughters, named James, William, Benjamin, Edward, John, George, Henry, Joel, Elizabeth, Rachel, Mary and Nancy.
