Thomas was born about 1815 in Ohio.  Thomas' father was David McKee and his mother was Lydia Billings. He had five brothers and a sister, named Samuel, Eli, Edmond, Joseph, Simon and Rebecca.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
