John was born on March 1st, 1643 in Boston, Massachusetts.  John's father was Thomas Scotto and his mother was Joan Sanford.  His paternal grandmother was Thomasine. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Joshua, Mehitable, Sarah and Thomasine.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
