Stephen was born on November 17th, 1802 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland.  Stephen's father was Christopher Treakle and his mother was Mary Wilson.  His paternal grandparents were Greenbury Treakle and Rachel. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Washington, Jefferson, Edward, Eliza, Mariah, Elizabeth, Juliann and Lucretia.  He was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
