Pieter's father was Bartholomeus Van Valkenburgh and his mother was Catherine van Alstyne. His paternal grandparents were Jochem Lambertse Van Valkenburgh and Eva Hendrickse Vrooman; his maternal grandparents were Lambert Janse van Alstyne and Jannetje Mingael.
