Charles was born about 1859 in Ohio.1 Charles' father was William M. Ambrose and his mother was Susan. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ambrose and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, Walter and Flora. He was the youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Judson and Nettie.
