William was born about 1829 in Virginia.1   William's father was Jacob Ambrose and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandfather was William Henry Ambrose and his paternal grandmother is Sarah. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Peter, John, Jacob, Mary, Margaret and Rosannah.  He was the youngest of the seven children.

William's first family

William and Susan were married in a religious ceremony about 1851.2   They had three sons and a daughter, named William, Walter, Charles and Flora.


William's second family

William and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on May 7th, 1864 in Champaign County, Ohio.  They had a son and a daughter, named Judson and Nettie.
