William was born about 1852 in Ohio.1 William's father was William M. Ambrose and his mother was Susan. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Ambrose and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and a sister, named Walter, Charles and Flora. He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Judson and Nettie.
