William was born in 1845.  William's father was Archibald Carmichael and his mother was Elizabeth Sparks.  His paternal grandfather was Alexander Carmichael. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Billy Wes, Martha and Matilda.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 18 on April 18th, 1863.
