Theodore was born in Woodbine, Kansas.  Theodore's father was William Moritz Schuermann and his mother was Louisa Freitag.  His paternal grandparents were William Schuermann and Gertrude Blumbach. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Carl, William, George, Clarence, Alma, Leota and Myrtle.
