Newton was born on October 11th, 1861 in Clark County, Ohio.  Newton's father was Henry Seibert and his mother was Rosannah Ambrose.  His maternal grandparents were Jacob Ambrose and Elizabeth. He had six brothers and a sister, named Philander, Jacob, George, Malcomb, Samuel, Charles and Mary.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 77 on October 9th, 1939 in Indianola, Iowa.  He was buried in Indianola, Iowa.
