Vernon's father was John Tolle and his mother was Meta Reese.  His paternal grandparents were Herman Tolle and Caroline; his maternal grandparents were Carl Reese and Bormei (Minnie). He had five brothers and two sisters, named Lester, Mert, Earl, Bud, Charlie, Ira and Hazel.
