Peter was born about 1812 in Morgan County, Virginia.1   Peter's father was Jacob Ambrose and his mother was Elizabeth.  His paternal grandfather was William Henry Ambrose and his paternal grandmother is Sarah. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Jacob, William, Mary, Margaret and Rosannah.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died before 1869.2
