Matilda, known as the Empress, was born on September 7th, 1102 in Winchester, Hampshire, England.  The Empress' father was King Henry Beauclerc I and her mother was Editha Atheling of Scotland.  Her paternal grandparents were King William I “the Conqueror” Plantagenet, of England and Matilda of Flanders; her maternal grandparents were King Malcom (Caennmor) of Scotland III and Saint Margaret of Scotland. She had two brothers and a sister, named the Aetheling, Richard and Euphamia. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert, Rainald and Maud.  She died at the age of 65 on September 10th, 1167 in Rouen, Normandy, France.
