Henry was born about September 1068 in Selby, Yorkshire, England.  Henry's father was King William I “the Conqueror” Plantagenet, of England and his mother was Matilda of Flanders.  His paternal grandparents were Robert I of Normandy, 6th Duc de Normandie and Arlette (Herleve) Falaise; his maternal grandparents were Baldwin V ("the Pious") of Flanders and Princess Adele of France. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Richard, Rufus, Adeliza, Cecilia, Adela, Agatha and Constance.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died on December 1st, 1135 in St. Denis-le-Fermont, Near Gisors, Angers, Maine-Et-Loire, France.
