Beverly was born in 1770.  Beverly's father was Thomas Travis and his mother was Barbara Green.  His paternal grandparents were John Travis and Nancy Copeland. He had three brothers named James, John and Jeremiah.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William, Jeremiah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Catherine, Nancy and Hannah.
