John was born in 1763.  John's father was Thomas Travis and his mother was Barbara Green.  His paternal grandparents were John Travis and Nancy Copeland. He had three brothers named James, Beverly and Jeremiah.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named William, Jeremiah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Catherine, Nancy and Hannah.  He died at the age of 81 on July 17th, 1844 in Tennessee.
