Death Notes
Obituary - Monroe Record Commercial, March 26, 1880:
"Nelson Ambrose, who died in Raisinville on the 15th, was 73 years of age. He was married to Miss Wiley Barton 52 years ago. She died in 1866. [appears to be an error on date.] Forty-six years ago he came to LaSalle, walking the entire distance from Martinsburg, Va. He then returned, and the next year moved to LaSalle, where he has lived until about five years ago, when he moved to where he died. For forty years he has been a member of the M.E. Church. He was a kind neighbor and an ardent Christian. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for a number of years, and other responsible positions with which the people of this town honored him. He was an earnest worker in the S.S. and many in LaSalle will long remember his words of warning and of love. He leaves a widow and three boys - one in California; one in Alpena [Mich]; one in Raisinville and one daughter, who lives in Kansas. The funeral was held in Raisinville, and his remains brought to LaSalle on Friday, the 19th and buried beside the remains of his first wife."
