Ann was born about 1864 in Bridgends, Glamorgan, Wales.  Ann's father was Richard Keagle and her mother was Caroline Smith. She had five brothers and three sisters, named George, Richard, Albert, Jessie, Reuben, Ellen, Charlotte and Edith.  She was the oldest of the nine children.
